DUE TO AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE, WE ARE CLOSING REGISTRATIONS FOR THE TRAINING AT NOON TODAY (SATURDAY). Please email hearth@thehearthcommunity.com to be put on a list for future trainings.
“You can make any sorrow bearable by putting it into a story or telling a story about it” – Isak Dinesen.
The Hearth is recruiting a team of compassionate listeners to gather stories and provide an empathic presence to those affected by recent Southern Oregon fires. You do not need to be a trained therapist to participate, however we are looking for people who have the aptitude and gifts to empathically listen to others. Volunteers will be required to attend a one day training and then will be sent to meet with various community members (in socially distanced, masked settings) according to their own availability.
Listening is an act of love, and many in our community are in need of loving attention. If you would like to sign up to be a compassionate listener, please go to the Calendar and register for our first training that will be held online on Sunday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with breaks). We will send out ZOOM sign-in details to confirmed participants the day before the event.
Depending on the level of interest and need, we will continue to train and deploy people throughout the Fall. Even if you can’t attend the training on Sunday, if you would like to be part of The Hearth Community listening team, please register and put in a note in the comments and we will keep you informed about upcoming activities.
Thank you and be well.
